159 can'tcouldn't

A 对现在事件的否定推断,可以用can'tcouldn't加上动词be的现在式或者可以用can'tcouldn't加上动词的进行式表示:

ChildCan I have some sweetsI'm hungry

MotherYou can'tcouldn't be hungryYou've just had dinner

Annlooking through binoculars):An aeroplane is pulling up people fromthe boat

TomIt can'tcouldn't be an aeroplaneIt must be a helicopter

He says he's still reading The Turn of the Screw

He can'tcouldn't still be reading itI lent it to him ages ago and it's quite a short book

A man answered the phoneI suppose it was her husband

It can'tcouldn't have been her husbandHe's been deaf for ages

I took a Circle Line train to St Paul's

You can'tcouldn't have taken the Circle LineIt doesn't go through St Paul'sYou must have been on the Central Line

She said I couldn't have come on the Cricle Line

He said it couldn't be an areoplane
