Tar·zan
the main character in books by Edgar Rice
Burroughs, which were later made into many films, about a baby who is left in the African forest and cared for by
apes until he becomes a man. He wears only a
loincloth (=a piece of cloth worn around the waist) , moves through the forest by swinging from tree to tree on ropes made of plants, and is very brave and strong, with big muscles. He meets a woman called
Jane who becomes his girlfriend, and he is famous for saying 'Me Tarzan. You Jane' and also for making a loud cry as a warning.
